Art is a natural way to practice mindfulness – it’s what we call “informal practice of mindfulness” – where you simply immerse yourself fully in the (creative) act and allow yourself to enjoy it just like a child would.
Forget about expectations or distractions, and be in the present moment while you create your art. Enjoy the process of learning something new, working with your hands and don’t worry about making it perfect.
It’s all about being present and noticing your senses. Being in the moment is what mindfulness is all about. When you sit down to create your art, take a deep breath. How does it feel when you look at all the patterns in front of you, where do they take you, how do they make you feel? Do you notice a certain structure to the embellishments you are decorating your creation with? What colors, patterns or themes are most appealing to you?
Notice your emotions while you create. Creativity itself has a positive impact on our well-being. How did you feel when you first sat down to get started on your art project? Were you nervous, excited, calm? Did any emotions come up while you were creating your art? Once you finish your artwork, notice if there is any change in how you feel. Just notice without any judgment.
These workshops are intended for all skill levels.
